A separate application is required for each unit of competence or course module:
Statement of Relevant Experience/Skills/Qualification Attached. Please provide a written statement briefly outlining your experience/skills/qualifications relevant to the program/module. The information, certificates, statements etc provided in relation to this Recognised Prior Learning Application are true and correct (Applicants please note this information will be retained by CWSC Pty Ltd under our Privacy Code of Practice)
WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO?
NOTE: THIS PROCESS MUST BE COMPLETED PRIOR TO ENROLMENT IN A TRAINING COURSE
1. Reading all of the following information before completing the application.
2. Read the copies of the UNITS OF COMPETENCE (anta web site) 91035 RTO
3. You can only be given RPL or RCC for the whole unit of competence.
4. Collect and provide evidence to show that you can meet all of the ELEMENTS shown within the unit of competence (Refer to evidence guide attached)
5. Ask yourself these questions:
- Valid – does it match the competency?
- Sufficient – is it enough?
- Current – how old is your evidence? (keep within 2 years)
- Authentic – is it your own work?
6. Where do I get this evidence?
- Formal courses or training programs undertaken
- Paid or unpaid work experience
- Letters of validation (see attachment for details)
- Community or voluntary work
- Life experience (eg home duties, caring duties, travel)
7. When you have completed the above, collate and organise the information and return to Countrywide Workplace Safety Consultants Pty Ltd.
8. You will be notified when the assessment is completed – this may take <insert date> Once any RPL or RCC is provided you then enrol in the course for which status has been granted.
9. Course fees for enrolment are set by the RTO and will vary from the usual scheduled fee for training. Applicants will be invoiced upon application.

What is evidence?
Evidence is information which is matched against a standard and so provides proof of the person’s competence for example.
Training results/certificates:
- Training workbooksReferences from colleagues/ employers
- Job description/ work experience
- Photos/videos of work
- Work journal/diary
- Awards received relating to work or relevant activities
- Work samples e.g. items, letters, job specifications,
The RPL assessment is conducted as an evaluation system to recognise prior learning. The process involves:
- Mapping evidence of competency against current national/registered competencies and criteria used for assessment purposes, and/or
- Completing defined tasks from the national training package / accredited course criteria that can be used to satisfy the assessment criteria for individual competencies
- Evaluating references from life experiences to decide if the participant is suitable to be granted the option of completing defined tasks to satisfy assessment criteria from the national training package / accredited course.
GUIDELINES FOR LETTERS OF VALIDATION IN SUPPORT OF RCL/RCC
Letters of validation are a means of confirming and supporting the authenticity of claims. There are certain requirements that must be fulfilled.
- The letter must be written by a person who knows the applicant and who has direct knowledge of the activity for which the applicant has claimed RPL.
- The relationship between the writer and the applicant must be clearly stated.
- The letter should be written on the original official stationery of the company or organisation with which the writer is associated. If not applicable, the reference should be in the form of a Statutory Declaration.
- The content of the letter should include a description of duties, responsibilities or other activities that are an integral component in the knowledge and experience to be considered for RPL.
- The description of duties, responsibilities etc must be aligned to the Units of Competence for which RPL is being claimed.
- The activity under consideration must be fully detailed as it would be in a resume. The letter should indicate the relevance and relationship of the knowledge and experience, i.e. what, when, for how long, where, etc.
- The writer should evaluate the level of the applicant’s understanding and performance during the experience.
- The letter should be one of validation, not recommendation.

GLOSSARY OF TERMS USED ·
- Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL): You apply to Countrywide Workplace Safety Consultants Pty Ltd who will assess any relevant qualification, knowledge or experience that you may possess toward receiving the new qualification. It is like applying for a job and may be likened to presenting a CV.
- Recognition of Current Competence (RCC): Much like RPL but this looks at what you can currently do to prove that you are competent – it is a measure of your relevant experience toward getting a qualification.
- Competence: You are assessed to set standards to see if you can do a task or job properly given certain ‘rules’. It is completed by a trained assessor.
- Training Package: A document which describes skills and packages Competencies an individual needs to be trained properly, in what is called Vocational (work related) Education. These are Australia wide standards and with the assistance of an RTO are able to have this training recognised across Australia. “An integrated set of nationally endorsed competency standards, assessment guidelines and Australian Qualifications Framework qualifications for a specific industry, industry sector or enterprise”.
- National Qualifications: Participants will be assessed at different levels from Certificate 1 to 4, Associate Diploma, Diploma, and Degree. These are set in the Australian Qualifications Training Framework (AQTF).
- Qualification: Usually a numbered paper or document that gives proof that the individual has satisfactorily completed a full qualification (e.g. Certificate IV in XXXX). Such results may be recorded on a national register.
- Unit of Competence: One part of a qualification – a bit like one chapter from a book. People can do these separately or as a group to make up a qualification.
- Registered Training Organisation: Countrywide Workplace Safety Consultants in conjunction with D & K Safety Consultants are organisations who have met strict standards set by the Australian National Training Authority (ANTA). We issue Qualifications or Statements of Attainment to people who are successful in their training.
